Documentation and marking

Compile technical file
Create a complete technical file showing compliance, including testing, drawings, manuals and risk evaluations.
Apply the UKCA mark
Place the UKCA logo correctly on the product, manual and box. Minimum size 5mm, undistorted, contrasting with the background.
Keep the DoC on file
Retain the Declaration of Conformity. Never apply the mark before conformity is fully verified, as that is a compliance offence.

Does every product sold in the UK require UKCA?

No. Only products covered by UK statute need UKCA certification, specifically regulated products such as electrical goods, toys, PPE and medical devices. Unregulated products are required to carry basic compliance declarations.

Is my existing CE mark still valid in Great Britain?

No. Since 1 January 2023, CE marking on its own is no longer accepted on products sold in Great Britain. UK regulations require a separate conformity assessment, and the UKCA mark must be applied even if you already conform to CE.

Can Indian manufacturers complete UKCA from India?

Yes. Many UK-approved bodies engage Indian consultants and accept documents digitally. For higher-risk products, testing may need to be carried out or validated through UK-accredited laboratories.

How long does UKCA certification take?

Do I need a UK Responsible Person?

Only for certain product types, such as medical devices. The UK Responsible Person acts as your legal representative in the UK, maintains technical-file access and liaises with regulators such as the MHRA. It is not required for general consumer products.

Can I use both CE and UKCA together?

Yes, but only if your product meets UK and EU requirements on its own. This is called dual conformity, and both must have compliance testing and declarations that clearly reference UK and EU legislation. Products for Northern Ireland must use CE or CE plus UKNI marks, not UKCA alone.
